ELECTRONEWS : Sappiamo che hai vissuto tanti anni  a new york city , perché ti sei trasferito a berlino ?

BORIS : Mi sono trasferito a berlino nel 1990 perché grandi locali come il “Paradise garage ” e il “loft” hanno chiuso , c’è stato anche un cambiamento nell’orientamento politico della città. Hanno ripulito la città e l’hanno resa molto più commerciale per attrare  i turisti anche  il muro di berlino è caduto ed è stata una grande sorpresa per me . Non avrei mai immaginato sapendo di essere nato e cresciuto a berlino che qualcosa del genere stava accadendo . Non potevo permettermi di perdere quest’evento storico .

ELECTRONEWS : Comparando Berlino e New York che differenza hai notato nella “clubbing scene ”  ?

BORIS : New York è una città enorme con più di 8 millioni di abitanti di etnie differenti . C’era una scena completamente diversa con locali che proponevano ogni genere di musica immaginabile . I locali erano costruiti con un ottimo sound system e con spazi incredebili , elementi perfetti per un esperienza sensazionale.

ELECTRONEWS : Preferisci suonare nei locali o nei festival ?

BORIS : Mi piace suonare nei festivals pero preferisco suonare nei locali dove si ha un ambiente un pò più intimo .

ELECTRONEWS : Sei un dj che viaggia tanto , hai del tempo libero per visitare la città dove  devi suonare ?

BORIS : Sfortunatamente molto raramente posso prendere del tempo per visitare la città , quasi quasi vedo più l’aeroporto, l’hotel e il locale che la città stessa.

ELECTRONEWS : Sei un dei dj resident del ” Berghain / Panorama Bar ” , considerato da tutti come il locale più esclusivo al mondo , cosa provi quando suoni i set di chiusura  la domenica mattina ?

BORIS : E’ un grande onore per me suonare i closing sets al Berghain / Panorama Bar. E’ l’unico posto che mi dà una libertà tale da creare qualcosa di unico.

ELECTRONEWS : Quali sono i 5 vinili che porti sempre con te?

BORIS : La musica che suono dipende dalla situazione del locale e dal mio umore. Alcuni dischi restano tanto tempo nel mio “vinyl case ” ed altri no . Ci stanno sempre situazioni dove suono in continuazione classici del genere : Lil´ Louis: French Kiss / Mr. Fingers: Stars / Chip E: Like This / Rythim is Rythim: Nude Photo / Virgo: Free Yourself

ELECTRONEWS : Quali sono le tue prossime serate cosi i fans di electronews possono venire a sentirti :

BORIS : Il 14 aprile suonerò al Trouw in Amsterdam , il 28 aprile al Gotec club a karlsruhe e il 16 maggio al Harry Klein di Monaco !

ELECTRONEWS : We know that you lived in New York City , what led you to move to Berlin ?

BORIS : I moved back to Berlin in 1990 because great clubs like the Paradise Garage and the Loft had closed. There was also a change in political leadership in  nyc which started to clean up  the city to make it even more commercially attractive for tourists. Also the Wall had fallen in Berlin and between the two Germanys which was a big surprise for me. I never thought that, being a native Berliner and growing up in a city surrounded by it, would ever happen. I knew something new was happening in Berlin and I didn´t want to miss it.

ELECTRONEWS : Which difference have you noticed between the clubbing scene in Berlin and NYC ?

BORIS : New york is a big metropolitan city with more than 8 million people living there of many different ethnical roots. There was a really big diverse clubbing scene catering to all kinds of people and musical preferences. Clubs were build to feature great sound systems and amazing spaces to experience the best entertainment as possible.

ELECTRONEWS : Do you prefer to play in clubs or in bigger events such festivals?

BORIS : I do like festivals but I prefer to play in clubs where you have a more intimate environment.

ELECTRONEWS : You are a dj which travels a lot do you have any time to enjoy  the city you play at ?

BORIS : Unfortunately on very rare occasions I can take the time to see more of the city than just the airport , hotel and the club where I’m playing.
